Recent Dear Cancer Messages (What do you have to say to cancer? Let it out.)

  • Dear Cancer, you came into my life on May 16, 2013 when my sister/best friend got AML. She fought for a year and 1 month when you took her on June 16, 2014. The pain and suffering you have caused my beautiful sister and I will never be forgotten. You took one of the most important people in my life away and I am never going to recover, she will never hold my hand, she will never walk at my side with her IV pole, she will never hug me, give me kisses and never tell me how much she loves me. You have destroyed my life and for this I will spend the rest of my existence trying to help others fight back the way I helped my sister. (click here to comment)
  • Dear Cancer. You have been a pain since diagnosed. You made me sick 4 month before found, and now almost 2 years out the surgeries have caused scar tissue that makes it hard to do my job. You took one thing I truly miss is my memory. I use to be able to tell a tree by seeing it now I cant. You have cause depression that I am looking for help for, and you took my smile. NO more. I am going to find the old me. He was a great guy. (click here to comment)

  • I finished chemotherapy two years ago. Towards the end of chemo and ever since, I've begun developing undiagnosable skin conditions and I am wondering if anyone has had a similar experience. I don't want to blame it on chemo, but it's the only thing I can come up with. (click here to answer

  • Dear cancer, have I told you lately how much I hate you! 10 yrs ago you took my world from me, my mom! Then you took my aunt and then my uncle! 4 yrs ago you decided to come into me and for 2.5 yrs made my life hell ! I am in remission now but one day you will be back! I fought you once ill fight you again you bastard! You changed me! I am always in pain because of what you did to my back, I am always tired because of the medications I have to take because of you! I hate you so much and you always seem to go for the good people!! Maybe so many people wouldn’t have to suffer from you if you didn’t bring the drug companies so much money! Maybe one day the government and the drug companies will release the cure so no more people have to suffer from you!!! (click here to comment)

  • So it's been 10 years since I was diagnosed and I've looked for something to symbolise the 5 year struggle I had with cancer...I thought about doing three dates; diagnosis, bone marrow transplant and then remission. I just wanted to post and kind of ask if anyone thinks that's a mistake. Sometimes it feels like it never happened and all I suffered isn't real. This makes me feel weak and like I can't accomplish things so I want this tattoo as a reminder that I I've already done so much and I'm only 19. Does anyone have anything to say? I think maybe a small cancer ribbon at the bottom right. It will be under my scar on my ribs from the line I had into my heart. It's not to show off but a personal, meaningful tattoo (click here to answer)
  • My mother is in her 6th week of 7 treatments after being diagnosed with stage 3 Squamous Cell Carcinoma (Head and Neck Cancer). Any suggestions on ways to spark enjoyment/interest in your daily life? Due to how sick she feels she has lost interest to do things she once enjoyed and isn't up for traveling very far, but is SO extremely bored that she wants to do something with her time. She feels that she may be depressed and will speak to her doctor about it. I'd really like to know if there's something you suggest that may be helpful. (click here to answer

  • Has anyone had to deal with anxiety and/or depression as a result of chemotherapy or steroids? I am one year post treatment and although I am 90% back to myself physically, I am still weak emotionally and mentally from the chemotherapy. I feel that either the treatment, the steroids, or both, have affected my emotional functioning. I will be seeing someone in the psychiatry department to see if medication can help me. I am wondering if anyone else has been through a similar experience and has any advice. (click here to answer)

  • I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma 4 yrs ago. Had chemo, radiation and a stem cell transplant. Up until my stem cell transplant the dr's had me taking so many steroids that I actually had so much energy. Once I was taking off my steroids and given my transplant I felt like death, then for the next year all I pretty much did was sleep. They told me it would take a while to get my energy back. I have to take a chemo pill every day and even though I have more energy than a year ago I'm still fatigued from my chemo pill! Soooo frustrated!!!!! Does anyone take chemo pills and feel fatigued? What can I do to get my energy back? (click here to answer
