Recent Dear Cancer Messages (What do you have to say to cancer? Let it out.)

  • "Dear Cancer, you showed up uninvited. No thanks to that. You have caused me years of anxiety, fear, pain, and loss. Guess what? You still didn't win. I am still alive. Guess what again? I have lived 5 years since that day you showed up when I was 32. You think you may have robbed me of some of my youth and I almost....almost let you take that. Then I thought about it and realized, if I let you steal, then you keep going, you keep chasing, and you get all cocky that you think you got this one. News flash - YOU LOSE. I WIN." (click here to comment)

  • "You always seem to show up at the worst times. You took over my body for two and half years and robbed me of my childhood. Then you decided to move on to my sweet grandpa who wouldn't let you win either. Just when I thought my family was invincible to you, you took my dad from us way too early. Why did you choose him and not me? Eff you, Cancer. Eff you.(click here to comment)

  • "Dear Cancer; Though my life will never be the same, and I'm ok, now, with you stopping by, it really ticks me off that you hurt the people I love, and changed their lives too. You're a greedy one. My port is out, my hair is growing, that 50lbs lost is going to stay off(thanks for that), and the cancer song I wrote is in the hands of some musicians who will try to make a difference. Up yours, Cancer.(click here to comment

It literally feels like my bones will break if I push them too far although I know they are strong because o had a bone density scan and they are good. • "Hey Cancer. I just wanted to tell you this one thing. You think you got the best of me, think you've had the last laugh. Bet ya think that everything good is gone. Think you left me broken down, think that I'd come running back? Baby you don't know me cause you're dead wrong. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! With that being said, you made it to where I could only have one child. In some ways, I should thank you for that. Some people don't even get a chance to have one child. I did, and I thank God for her everyday. Thanks to you Cancer, I'll always think about raising more kids, and I'll think about the four babies that I lost, to my dying day. So guess what. You came, my family and I fought, I won! Have you figured it out yet that I'm mad? I am angry at you. I won though so, Cancer, you can kiss my ass because you didn't bully me for very long, and I beat you." (click here to comment)

  • Hi! I'm an 8-year survivor of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. I had a really hard time figuring out how to live after cancer and I talked to a lot of other people who were having the same experience trying to figure out "what's next?", feeling that my old life didn't fit anymore, dealing with grief and anxiety. Now, I'm considering putting together a workshop to help other people answer the same kind of questions for themselves. What do you think? Is that something that would benefit anyone? What topics would you want it to cover? (click here to answer)

  • I had my first chemo for breast cancer two weeks ago. I'm taking cyclophosphamide and taxi there. My hair has not held its style as well and yesterday when I would run my fingers through my hair some strands would come loose. Do you think I'm starting to lose my hair? • Dear cancer, you thought you're getting the best of me the second time around? The first time you attacked my body, all you did was delay my goals of becoming a nurse with chemo, but I ended up learning way more than I would have from nursing school alone. Now that I finally graduated, you want another battle with me. I'll be coming for you with radiation and a stem cell transplant. All you'll do again is delay my life, but I would be learning more from it.(click here to comment

  • I'm currently undergoing expansion, and I feel that I look different in clothing. My doctor has told me that the reconstructed breast will be overfilled because they will need extra skin because of possible skin damage that will be caused by radiation. I will probably not have the final reconstruction surgery for at least 6-7 more months until chemo and radiation have ended. I'm small chested and I tried using a prosthesis (removing lots of the fiberfill) but it still didn't look right. I've tried wearing loose fitting shirts, but I still look uneven. And the problem with unevenness will switch as the expansion continues and the reconstructed breast is overfilled. Any suggestions on what worked for you? (click here to answer)
